Ask the Ranger

GotThe Virtual Ranger a question about the countryside, conservation or nature? The best thing to do is ask your local ranger! We rangers are friendly people who love to answer questions about our work. Well, maybe you can't find a ranger at the moment. Just for this very eventuality, Naturenet provides a service called... 'Ask the Ranger'.

Look here at some questions we've been asked in the past.

• You might well find the answer to your question on Naturenet. Have you tried the great search Naturenet feature?
• Or, maybe we've already answered it. Check out the Naturenet FAQs.

We love to get questions! If you are unsure as to whether to ask us or not then send it to Naturenet which is staffed by a former ranger who will try his best to answer it!

Let's Ask The Ranger right now.

We love to get questions! If you are unsure as to whether to ask us or not then Send it to Naturenet which is staffed by Real Live Rangers and we'll try our best to answer it.

But, before you send off your question, please take time to read the following.

Please do not send your entire essay or assignment questions. We can't send you a whole essay back and we won't do your project for you. But we'd love to help you with bits of it. So please don't ask general things like "tell me all you know about spiders". Ask specific questions like "where do spiders go in the winter" (click here for the answer). If you do send an essay question, please try not to make it too obvious. Thanks!

Naturenet FAQs

We don't know much about anything outside of England - but we can hazard a guess.

Your question and our answer (but not your name, location or e-mail address) may put on social media or be sent out to our mailing list for everyone to see - unless you don't want that. If you would rather keep your question just between us, tell us so - we won't mind! (See our privacy policy)

Now that you've read all that, and if you're still with us, it's time to

Spider

So, where do spiders go in the winter?

Some die, some hibernate. Many leave behind egg sacs which hatch out in spring, and in a mild winter many adults will also survive. Climate change will mean that this happens more often, so there may be more and different in the UK spiders in the future.
