Massive cuts threaten Natural England and Environment Agency

A report in the Guardian suggests alarming proposals to cut the budgets of the new Natural England agency before it even begins its work. The new agency would be the successor to English Nature and thus the prime funder and co-ordinator of biodiversity work in England. The Guardian says:

Ain’t it weird? The trouble is, soon enough there won’t be enough people old enough to remember the fun we had with environmental issues under the Conservatives. Then no doubt Mr Cameron’s bike and wind turbine will be an effective green vote-winner. I often find it very odd that one of my favourite environmental commentators today is John Gummer MP.
So much for labours green credentials.
