There's a great new job going. The Ranger's more than happy with the job he's got, but he's mindful that the most popular page on Naturenet is "Get a job working in the countryside industry: Naturenet shows you how." So if you're job hunting, don't miss out on this one, advertised today by the South East Employers:

Here's the low-down:
Progress through Partnership (PtP)
Partnership and Communications CoordinatorSalary: £26,067 circa and casual car user allowance
PtP is a partnership support programme unique to the south east offering a variety of mechanisms to help partnerships become more effective.
PtP was launched in April 2007 and is building on a successful first year.
The recent Local Government Act has put the partnership agenda centre stage with its emphasis on a new area based performance management arrangements through the LAA and the new assessment arrangements that will be laid out in the CAA.
PtP encourages a peer led approach to capacity building and is developing peer learning support arrangements for the region. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience by being at the cutting edge of building and developing partnerships.
The post holder will manage peer learning networks, oversee dissemination of capacity building funds and take responsibility for the programme communications plan.
Well that's obvious then. Isn't it? Isn't it?? Actually, it isn't. Far from it. What is this gibberish? Sometimes it's best to just throw up one's hands in despair. It's great news that PtP had such a successful 2007. We're all rooting for it. But can anyone please explain to this poor old Ranger just what £26K of our money is going to do this year?
...
It's terrible when you catch yourself sounding like somebody on a local radio phone-in. Moan, moan, waste of taxpayers money, I pay your wages, etc. Public servants. National service. Brussels, young people, teachers. Video games and internets...
Maybe The Ranger had better just slink off and encourage a peer led approach to capacity building.
Only one comment so far. Read it and add yours here!

The thoughts and writings of The Virtual Ranger, since 1995 the host and mascot of Naturenet, the UK's most popular independent environmental website; along with interjections from his real-life alter ego, Matthew Chatfield, and others. Featuring not only Naturenet and countryside related stuff, but, as on Naturenet, plenty of other material - more or less at random - that takes The Ranger's fancy. But you can be confident that soon enough he'll be rather sarcastic.
