The Ranger and his friend Cat are off for some overseas travel this month - quitting the Isle of Wight by an early ferry to make their way across the mainland for a weekend in a country house.
Are they, perhaps, the ideal examples of rural tourism marketing jargon, being middle-class eco-tourists taking a weekend break in the 'shoulder months'? Actually, not really. Well, perhaps a bit.

They are actually off to a Field Studies Council training course to learn all about flies, with the Dipterists Forum.
They'll keep you updated with their progress!

The thoughts and writings of The Virtual Ranger, since 1995 the host and mascot of Naturenet, the UK's most popular independent environmental website; along with interjections from his real-life alter ego, Matthew Chatfield, and others. Featuring not only Naturenet and countryside related stuff, but, as on Naturenet, plenty of other material - more or less at random - that takes The Ranger's fancy. But you can be confident that soon enough he'll be rather sarcastic.
