Today was Tony Blair's last day as Prime Minister. Good or bad, he's had an eventful time at the top. It was with some amusement that The Ranger saw this remarkable scarecrow erected in a field on the Isle of Wight today:

One has to wonder, was it intended as a farewell, or just a very late attempt to influence debate? After such careful consideration of the political nuances of their message, had the authors been sitting on this for a decade, thinking "Oooh, we'll put up that old scarecrow we made soon, that'll be a laugh"? Then someone comes rushing round shouting "He's going today! Get that scarecrow out quick before it's too late!"...
Still, it won't be Tony we need to worry about now. What will Mr Brown have in store for the countryside, the environment, and for rangers everywhere? No doubt we'll soon see.

The thoughts and writings of The Virtual Ranger, since 1995 the host and mascot of Naturenet, the UK's most popular independent environmental website; along with interjections from his real-life alter ego, Matthew Chatfield, and others. Featuring not only Naturenet and countryside related stuff, but, as on Naturenet, plenty of other material - more or less at random - that takes The Ranger's fancy. But you can be confident that soon enough he'll be rather sarcastic.
