I'm the Urban Gardener, Baby
by Ruth D'Alessandro
G
reetings from that sunny corner of metropolitan London that is called Penge. My name is Ruth D’Alessandro, and for the last five years, together with my husband Paul, I have been trying to create an organic wildlife flower and vegetable garden in the suburbs of London. I’ve had a lot of a success, and probably an equal amount of failure, but the message to those of you who want to create a little rural idyll amid the high-rises is: it’s possible!
I expanded in 1998 onto an allotment nearby, and these articles are an account of my progress during that year, with occasional wildlife notes too.
• Beehive Yourself!
• A Creepy-Crawly Special
• In Praise of the Nightshade Family
• Ashes to Ashes... and Snail Tails
The author is no longer producing articles on this topic - having produced a couple of kids since then - but still has an active interest in urban organic gardening. To contact her, please use the Naturenet feedback page and mark the message for attention of Ruth D'Alessandro.
